As Phoenix experiences its warmest winter on record, the capital city of Sonora, Mexico, is breaking heat records of its own after a few-week stretch with some abnormally hot days.
Temperatures reached above 100 degrees Fahrenheit on Monday in Hermosillo, making it the hottest March 2 on record in Hermosillo.
While cooler at around 87 degrees Fahrenheit, the temperature in Nogales, Sonora, also broke the record for the hottest March 2 in that city.
That comes after a hot spell in Hermosillo late last week also shattered February records. Temperatures last Thursday reached 105 degrees Fahrenheit, making it Hermosillo’s hottest February day on record.
Several other cities in Sonora also had record heat late last week, with temperatures climbing well past 90 degrees Fahrenheit in much of the state.
