The Mexican state of Sonora officially opened a public animal clinic in the state capital of Hermosillo last week, with the goal of offering free and low-cost veterinary services.

In a video on social media, Sonoran Gov. Alfonso Durazo wears a cowboy hat and holds a little brown and white puppy over his shoulder.

The puppy is the first client of the state’s new animal welfare clinic in Hermosillo. The facility offers free and low-cost veterinary services to Sonora’s pets.

With a $1.3 million state investment, the clinic includes consultation rooms and a veterinary emergency room in the Sonoran state capital.

The clinic offers free spaying and neutering, as well as rabies vaccinations and basic veterinary services. It’s the first-of-its-kind public animal clinic in the state of Sonora.
