The U.S. Department of Justice is adding a terrorism charge to an indictment of an Arizona gun dealer accused of knowingly attempting to provide firearms to drug cartels.
The original indictment accuses southern Arizona resident Laurence Gray of attempting to provide firearms to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and the Sinaloa cartel.
The Trump administration designated both groups as foreign terrorist organizations last year. That designation opens the possibility for new, terrorism-related charges for people in the United States accused of aiding those groups.
The superseding indictment against Gray now adds the charge of attempted material support to a terrorist organization.
The DOJ says Gray is a resident of Hereford — about 20 miles west of Bisbee — and owned Grips by Larry, a federally licensed firearms dealer.
