Supervisors Pima County voted unanimously to rename a floating holiday that’s currently named after Cesar Chavez.

Pima County Supervisor Andrés Cano brought the item during the board’s meeting this week. He’s asking the county administration's office to identify administrative procedures and policies needed to rename the county’s holiday — along with any public artwork and signage that includes Chavez’s name.

It’s one of several local efforts to emerge from a New York Times investigation into allegations that Chavez sexually abused young girls and women — including Dolores Huerta, another icon of the farmworker rights movement who is now in her 90s.

Earlier this week, Tucson removed a statue of Chavez shortly after it had been vandalized.
