A Taiwanese manufacturing giant seems to be evaluating investment opportunities in the Mexican state south of Arizona.
Mexican Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard said representatives from the Taiwanese manufacturing company Foxconn will visit Hermosillo, the capital of Sonora, this month.
“This visit is extremely important to us,” Ebrard said. He said the representatives from the electronics manufacturing firm will explore what the city of Hermosillo has to offer in terms of possible future investment.
The company has factories across the globe, including in the Mexican state of Chihuahua, which borders Texas and New Mexico.
Ebrard said the visit comes before the delegation heads to Washington and later to Houston.
Near the beginning of the first Trump administration, U.S. states tried to outbid each other to attract a $10 billion Foxconn investment to build a screen factory. In the nine years since, the plans for the Wisconsin factory have been scaled down.
