The Papa Fire that’s burning east of Flagstaff was at 118 acres on Wednesday. Officials say the threat to homes or structures is low and the blaze is 25% contained.

June 9, 2026: Wildfire is 13 miles east of Flagstaff

Crews are responding to the Papa Fire that sparked Monday afternoon. The impacted area is 13 miles east of Flagstaff and far enough from any communities or structures that the likelihood of evacuation is low.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Most of the high country has been under a Red Flag Warning since Monday due to drought, high winds and low humidity.

Noah Baker with Flagstaff’s Fire Department said the fire line hadn’t moved much Tuesday morning and what had spread was pushing east, away from any communities or structures.

“The fire, if it were to move, has a lot of ground out there where it might have a difficult time really moving effectively, and there's no homes or anything out there for it to burn up,” said Baker.

The Papa Fire was at 0% containment on Tuesday.

Crews are working to keep the perimeter small and away from nearby gas pipelines and a Western Area Power Administration powerline.

Members of the public are asked to avoid the area and refrain from flying drones overhead, which can impede firefighter safety and operations.

Smoke will be visible as suppression activities continue.
