Tucson bus strike looms as council discusses system investments

Three months ago, Pima County voters approved the RTA Next transportation plan, which set aside $51 million for public transit safety measures. Now, local elected officials are deciding how to spend some of that money.

On Tuesday, the Tucson City Council discussed creating a transit ambassador program, funding police deployments across the system and upgrading bus stops.

The discussion took place against the backdrop of a looming strike by Sun Tran and Sun Link drivers, who have been raising concerns about their work safety for months.
