The Pocket Fire that burned near Sedona may be contained, but officials say parts of Oak Creek Canyon and the Slide Rock swimming area will remain closed.
Michelle Thompson with the Arizona parks department said the surrounding area is coated in ash and debris is floating in the water.
“Because there’s not the vegetation and everything that can hold the earth in during these rain events,” she said. “It’s higher risk for the flash flooding and then its not very good water quality right now.”
Thompson says the closure is scheduled to continue through the end of September. The Pocket Fire has burned more than 27,000 acres.
