Mexico says federal authorities there confiscated nearly 40 pounds of heroin and fentanyl on the highway toward Arizona.
Mexican authorities arrested two people operating a passenger bus on the highway in the Sonoran capitol of Hermosillo that runs toward the U.S.-Mexico border crossing in Nogales.
Authorities found more than 20 pounds of fentanyl and more than 17 pounds of heroin, as well as several cell phones, inside a hidden compartment of the passenger bus.
The Mexican government says the arrests and seizure “reaffirm their commitment to combat drug trafficking.”
The Nogales crossing is the busiest on the border of Sonora and Arizona.
