Tucson police are investigating a deadly shooting at a gay bar in Tucson on Monday as a hate crime.
Investigators allege that 44-year-old Ousman Ceesay shot and killed 42-year-old Vincent Anthony Siqueiros and 33-year-old Cameron Davis Capara and then himself outside the Venture-N bar.
Police say Ceesay was carrying a list of several LGBTQ-friendly businesses.
Arizona Democratic Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva spoke on the House floor in Washington, D.C., on Monday in response to the attack.
“When that hate is combined with easy access to firearms, the consequences can be deadly. I am sick and tired of Congress refusing to lift a finger to protect our communities while, every day, dozens of people are shot and killed across the country," Grijalva said.
Tucson Mayor Regina Romero also took to social media to address the incident.
“This tragedy serves as yet another painful reminder that homophobia is still rampant in our country,” she said. “We must implement smarter policies to prevent mass shootings and keep our community safe.”
The Tucson Police Department says it’s increasing its presence around LGBTQ establishments in the city, and is coordinating with community organizations to provide support.
