Some good news for drivers traveling between Phoenix and Las Vegas: The second of two new tunnels is now open.
Garin Groff is with the Arizona Department of Transportation. He says this is part of a multiyear plan to ease congestion between Interstate 40 and U.S. 93 near Kingman.
“This will be most significant for traffic coming back from Vegas into Phoenix, where right now a lot of people get backed up, making a left-hand turn from U.S. 93 onto Interstate 40,” he explained.
Construction is expected to continue into 2027. The $106 million project includes five new bridges, four bridge rehabilitations and two miles of sound walls.
