The U.S. Forest Service says it has reopened parts of Oak Creek in Sedona. The popular tourist destination was closed during the Pocket Fire in June.
Michelle Thompson with Arizona State Parks says even though trails are open, swimming is not recommended due to recent rains, which has left the creek dirty and slippery.
"We’re approaching fall weather now. Once it cools off, we're probably not going to have a lot of people wanting to get into the creek, but by next summer conditions should be pretty goo," Thompson said.
Thompson says it’ll likely take about two years before the area’s vegetation is restored, which helps block lingering ash from the fire’s burn scar from washing into swimming areas.
