Mexico’s president says she and President Donald Trump are working toward a deal, as the two countries continue to negotiate the trade pact that binds them.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed to reporters that she and Trump spoke on the phone Thursday.
“We continue advancing on commercial issues,” Sheinbaum said.
She did not provide details about the conversation but said the two reached some agreements.
Mexico and the United States continue their negotiation of the USMCA trade pact that joins them with Canada. Sheinbaum said Mexico is asking the United States to lower certain tariffs put in place under the Trump administration.
The conversation comes amid a trade war between the United States and Canada, which have so far been unable to come to an agreement on tariffs.
