Mexico’s defense minister, Omar Garcia Harfuch, praised an operation late last week that ended in the arrest of several people in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, known as Rocky Point in English.
Members of the Mexican military and Sonoran state officials arrested seven people and freed three others being held against their will at a property in Puerto Peñasco, south of the Arizona border.

Mexico’s security chief said authorities also seized machine guns and other weapons, as well as high-end vehicles that were reported stolen in the United States.
Three state agents were wounded during the raid.
Puerto Peñasco is a popular beach destination for Arizona tourists and remains an “exception area” from a State Department travel advisory on other parts of the Mexican state of Sonora. No tourists appear to have been involved in last week’s operation.
