KJZZ is looking for a news editor to be part of KJZZ’s local and regional journalism operation.
The editor is part of an editorial team that is responsible for ensuring all news content is accurate, ethical, engaging and in line with the highest standards of professional journalism. The editor works on broadcast and digital stories ensuring excellent quality.
The editor position assigns and helps develop story ideas; writes and researches content to assist the news team; provides mentorship; and oversees work and activities of a team of reporters.
We're seeking an experienced editor to help provide the best possible audience service to listeners and users in the U.S.'s fifth-largest city.

Essential functions
40% - Edits broadcast content including short and long-form reporting.
30% - Edits multimedia content, including content for digital platforms, pod and videocasts, and live events.
20% - Directs staff in developing stories, sourcing and series production.
10% - Directs reporting teams and coverage to accomplish newsroom goals and other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in journalism, radio/television, broadcasting or directly related field and four years of broadcast (radio/television) editing experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
Desired qualifications:
1. Three years of experience as an editor or reporter covering core news topics such as business; climate/environment; courts/criminal justice; data; economics; education; health, politics; science and technology.
2. Excellent word skills, with a firm grasp of the English language, grammar and AP style.
3. A portfolio with at least five story samples – including at least one series or special project — that you produced as either a reporter or lead editor. (Must be submitted by close of business of the application deadline attached with your application.)
4. Strong historical knowledge and understanding of the Phoenix-metro area and Arizona.
5. Experience editing audio in Adobe Audition or similar software.
6. Experience supervising and/or editing direct reports.
7. One year of full-time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two years.
