In 2019, the University of Arizona switched its preferred abbreviation from UA to UArizona.
The change was ridiculed by some, including by Saturday Night Live. Now, it’s been scrapped for new abbreviations.
The marketing department came up with UArizona to boost the school in search engine results.
Googling letters UA still brings up other entities.
“United Artists, United Airlines, Under Armour and that university in Alabama,” said Mitch Zak, a university spokesperson.
U of A or simply Arizona are the school’s new preferred abbreviations.
