Original 'Arizona Horizon' host Michael Grant dies at 72

Michael Grant, the long-time host of "Arizona Horizon," died this week. He hosted the program from its debut until stepping down from the position in 2006.

"Arizona Horizon" executive producer Mike Sauceda worked with Grant for more than a decade.

“At that time, the show was live at seven,” said Sauceda. “So he’d come in at 6:30 and be totally prepared and just knock it out of the park each and every time.”

Grant’s unique interview style, he said, always got the most out of guests.

“The journalistic questioning with a lawyer’s perspective on questioning, so it’s more like a cross-examination,” he recalled.

Sauceda added that the death of fellow journalist Jana Bommersbach this week only adds to the sense of loss.

“[Grant’s death] comes on the heels also of Jana Bommersbach, who also did a little work at Channel 8 and appeared on the Friday roundtable with Mike Grant,” he said. “Two big journalistic legends we lost this week.”

Sauceda says Grant and Bommersbach were known for being exceptionally smart, prepared and kind on set.
