The Tucson Unified School District is partnering with a local organization in hopes of increasing college attendance rates among its students.

The program sends college students to give advice to middle and high schoolers.

In 2022, about 48% of Arizona’s high school graduates enrolled in some form of postsecondary education. That’s according to the state Board of Regents’ most recent postsecondary attainment report.

TUSD is trying to get its numbers up by partnering with the Earn to Learn Next Steps Program, which recruits, trains and sends college students to support those going from middle school to high school and from high school to postsecondary education.

In an email to KJZZ News, a district spokesperson said “A crucial part of this strategy includes helping students complete the FAFSA and educating families about the process and benefits of financial aid.”

The free program starts this fall.
