The Arizona Diamondbacks became the first Major League Baseball team to pilot a brand of reusable cups. Through a partnership with the company Bold Reuse and other parties, the franchise is looking to cut down on single-use products and encourage sustainability.
Amilyn Pierce is the vice president of government affairs for the Diamondbacks. She says the process is simple.
“They're going to throw it into a Bold Reuse bin. Bold Reuse picks that bin up. They take it to their wash center. They wash them, sanitize them, then they bring it back to us and we use those same cups again the next night,” she said.
She says they rolled out the new cups on Friday.
“It looked like it was running pretty well, and people were putting their cups in the right bins and understood what we were doing there and what we were trying to accomplish and appreciated that. But we'll definitely look at the half season results and decide what we want to do,” she said.
The cups will only be available for fans in the Bar-S All-You-Can-Eat Seats.
The program will continue at least through the rest of the Diamondbacks’ 2024 season.
