As the summer heat rages on, keeping your pets safe and out of the hottest parts of the day is crucial.
Walking your dog at night can still be a danger for dogs, as the ground is still extremely hot. Maricopa County Animal Care and Control’s Kim Powell says the early morning is the best time to walk your dog, and not to overdo it when giving your dog water.
“If they’re overheating, if they’re excessively panting, try to limit their water, let them drink it in slow amounts until they cool off, just to prevent them from getting sick," Powell said.
Powell says if your dog is outside for a long time, making sure they have fresh water is important.
Another way to help cool off your dog is to give them ice cubes to lick. Powell even suggests freezing chicken broth as a sweet treat.
