The White Mountain Apache Tribe has won a $6 million federal grant to build nine units of affordable housing.
The money is a fraction of the total amount being awarded to tribes nationwide to pay for housing infrastructure, new construction and renovation.
The funding is to help address a 2017 finding that overcrowding in tribal households remains strikingly more severe than for those of other U.S. citizens.
