The Department of the Interior announced that it’s funding 67 water conservation and efficiency projects across the country.
As part of this initiative, the town of Marana will receive $500,000 to replace over 2,500 residential water meters with advanced infrastructure.
The funds are part of a five-year plan for the Bureau of Reclamation to distribute more than $8 billion for water infrastructure projects like purification, reuse, and dam safety.
In Marana, the project is expected to save 93 acre-feet annually and reduce groundwater pumping in the Tucson Active Management area.
