Sunday, Aug. 4, set a new record for Salt River Project’s energy demand. It peaked at 8,219 megawatts, beating last year's record by about 50 megawatts.
SRP says it delivered enough power to supply 1.8 million homes (225 homes per megawatt) as Sunday’s high was about 116 degrees.
The utility says this year’s record is a result of high day and nighttime temperatures, as well as an increase in customers.
