The state Board of Regents has cut down a search committee’s list of prospects to those whom it will invite for interviews to be the next president of the University of Arizona.

Officials say the names of UA president prospects will be kept secret unless and until they accept the board’s invite.

Candidates are supposed to fit a presidential profile built with public feedback of qualities sought in the school’s next leader.

The soft resignation of President Robert Robbins in April cleared the way for a search led by a paid consulting firm.

Last year, Robbins revealed a nearly quarter-billion-dollar financial crisis caused by a miscalculation of cash on hand. Officials said UA’s budget deficit had been reduced to $52 million as of last month.
