The Pima County animal shelter is hosting a special weekend event offering free adoptions, extended hours and more on Aug. 10-11.
This weekend’s event comes as the Pima Animal Care Center — or PACC — is again over capacity, with more than 520 dogs and 91 cats. Officials say hundreds of other animals are already in foster care, and the shelter’s also expected new arrivals as county personnel deal with a pair of animal welfare cases.
Officials hope the all–weekend event will encourage more adoptions and alleviate pressure on the shelter. Community members are invited to come by for free adoptions of cats and dogs all day Saturday and Sunday. Free crates are also available to anyone who adopts a dog over 40 pounds.
The event takes place from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. each day.
