A new analysis from Pew Research Center shows that your opinion about the U.S.-Mexico border depends on whether you live north or south of the international boundary.

A survey showed that more than 80% of Americans think the U.S. government is doing a bad job handling the border, while just over 50% of Mexicans say the same.

Americans also expressed more negative views of the Mexican government, with two-thirds saying they are doing a bad job. Less than 40% of Mexicans agreed.

Jacob Poushter, associate director of research, says Pew made sure to get a wide variety of responses.

"We also weight the data to make sure it’s representative of the U.S. adult population based on census figures," Poushter said. "We weight it by gender, race, ethnicity, partisan affiliation, education.

The study also showed more than 60% of Mexicans have a favorable view of the U.S. About the same percentage of Americans have an unfavorable view of Mexico.
