A building named for Olympic games legend Jesse Owens in south Phoenix is currently undergoing renovation with plans to expand affordable health care in the area.
The Jesse Owens Clinic has served the south Phoenix community for years, operating as a pediatric clinic until it closed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mountain Park Health Center acquired the building shortly after, and serving as a space to distribute COVID-19 tests and vaccinations.
"We look to finish the construction probably early second quarter of 2025 and our internal medicine department is going to move there as well as our pharmacies," said Janey Pearl Starks with the Mountain Park Health Center.
The building has also served as a voting site and the hub of Mountain Park’s annual Jesse Owens 5K run.
