Arizona Supreme Court Justices Clint Bolick and Kathryn King have recused themselves from hearing a challenge to proposed changes in how long judges can keep their jobs.
Bolick and King did not provide a reason for recusal. But they are the only Supreme Court justices up for retention election this year.
Proposition 137 could result in state judges serving indefinitely until the age of 70. It would also change the retention system and only require reelection in some cases, such as judges committing crimes or filing for bankruptcy.
Progress Arizona sued to block the measure.
The group says part of the proposition is illegal in that it lets any state lawmaker force an investigation into a judge for a pattern of misconduct.
