Phoenix has broken a heat record. It's on track to break another

Earlier this week, Phoenix broke a heat record for most consecutive days of 100-plus degree temperatures, and the streak is expected to continue if the forecast holds. The previous record was set in 1993.

Ted Whittock with the National Weather Service in Phoenix says another heat record is in sight.

“So it looks like our record year for number of days over 110 was last year, 2023, and we had 55 total for the whole year, and we’re currently at 45," Whittock said.

He also says the highs for the next seven days are likely to stay in the mid- to upper-100s, maybe up to 110.
