Tucson roadway construction plans will now include stretch of new trees and vegetation

Officials in Tucson say they’re planning to include a new green stretch in a major roadway construction project underway in the city.

Several major construction projects are ongoing in Tucson right now as part of a $64 million roadway improvement initiative funded by the Regional Transportation Authority.

Local officials told KOLD the project underway at Grant Road will include more than 200 new trees and other plants across a 3-mile stretch of roadway.

It’s one of several green space efforts planned by the city. Another, headed by Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, aims to plant 1 million trees by 2030 to combat the effects of climate change.
