Restorations to Luke Air Force Base will start this fall using $3 million in federal funding. Arizona’s congressional delegation and West Valley partners helped in efforts to obtain the funds, which will go towards restoring old facilities at the munitions storage area.
Other repairs needing to be addressed include leaky air conditioners and roofs.
Kevin Porter is the project manager of the base’s civil engineer squadron.
“The funds are being well-utilized and definitely needed to improve the buildings and infrastructure here at Luke and help us keep the mission going," he said.
Porter says the base’s existence since the 20th century means its infrastructure wears down and requires repairs.
