Goodyear is looking for a partner to build a sports complex that would serve residents and attract tournaments from across Arizona and other states.
A feasibility study focused on nearly 130 acres of city-owned land along Interstate 10 between Dysart Road and Bullard Avenue. The conceptual design features 15 soccer and multi-use turf fields, 48 pickleball courts and walking trails.
Goodyear is accepting requests for information from companies that could partner with the city on the project’s design, construction, finance, operations and maintenance.
The study listed the site’s location, size and reasonable access to utilities as advantages. Challenges include grading and drainage and providing irrigation water to 12 soccer fields during the summer.
The City Council is expected to receive a staff update on right-of-way acquisition and potential public-private partnerships this fall.
