Abortion measure can appear on the November ballot, Arizona Supreme Court says

A demonstrator holds a sign in support of the Arizona for Abortion Access ballot measure which would amend the state constitution to guarantee access to abortion.

A measure to expand abortion access will go before Arizona voters in November.

The state Supreme Court has rejected a bid by abortion opponents to block the issue from the ballot.

The group Arizona Right to Life had argued that the proposed constitutional amendment is overly broad and that the description of the measure on the petition used by signature-gatherers was misleading to voters.

The Supreme Court unanimously rejected those arguments. Justices found nothing in the language of the measure’s description to be false.

Arizona currently bans abortion after 15 weeks of gestation. The measure would allow abortions up to about 24 weeks, with some exceptions beyond that.

It will appear on ballots as Proposition 139.
