Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs headed to Chicago on Tuesday, where she will spend the next several days at the Democratic National Convention.
Hobbs declined to say what message Vice President Harris’s campaign needs to deliver at the DNC to woo Arizonans, a state Hobbs won in 2022 even though Republicans hold a voter registration advantage over Democrats and independent voters.
“Well, as you know, I don't like to tell other people how to run their campaigns, so I'll leave that to them,” Hobbs said. “She's got the best team in the country working on her campaign and I know that they're going to do everything they can to make the case to Arizonans and to Americans why they should have four years in the White House.”
But Hobbs did say that voters in the swing state are focused on a few key issues.
“Just like were issues in 2022 when I ran for governor and won, Arizonans want things to be more affordable, they want a response on the border and they want to protect our fundamental freedoms,” Hobbs said.
Hobbs joins other members of Arizona’s delegation at the event, including Secretary of State Adrian Fontes and Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, who made a speaking appearance on Monday night.
With Hobbs and Fontes in Chicago, Attorney General Kris Mayes will serve as Arizona’s acting governor until Hobbs returns on Wednesday night.
While in Chicago, Hobbs will participate in a panel featuring Democratic women governors hosted by “Seinfeld” and “Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
The governor will also be taking “a whole bunch of meetings,” she said.
