Chandler police are for the first time going to have access to mental health care while they’re at work.

The City Council has approved a one-year agreement with the company Crisis Prevention and Recovery for a cost capped at $150,000.

“Some of the stuff we see out there, you can’t unsee it. So when you want to make sure that you’re taking care of yourself so you can take care of your community, having those folks on site or available by phone for us is a huge benefit,” said Ricky Gonzales, a Chandler police sergeant.

Officials say a clinician will embed with Chandler police to do yearly mental health checks, provide counseling and other services.
