Grand Canyon National Park is stepping up water conservation efforts, with a focus on the South Rim, after the latest break in the Transcanyon Waterline.
The North Rim is also implementing early conservation measures.
Until the waterline is repaired, the park will operate in conservation mode.
Park staff and visitors are encouraged to conserve water by limiting showers, turning off taps and reporting leaks. Campgrounds will have their water spigots turned off and camper services will close.
Officials say hikers in the backcountry should carry their own water or have a way to treat what they find. Individual breaks typically take between 3 to 5 days to repair.
