A pharmacist prepares to administer a COVID-19 vaccine in Phoenix on June 2, 2021.

The new COVID-19 vaccines could be at your local pharmacy in just a few days. The Food and Drug Administration gave the green light to two updated shots on Thursday.

Will Humble is with the Arizona Public Health Association. He says the shot is coming just in time. He’s seeing COVID-19 cases, driven by the latest variant, pick up by the day.

“Right now, if you get your vaccine, either Moderna or Pfizer, in the next few weeks, it will be precisely the strains that are circulating right now," Humble said. "Now that might change over the next month because this is a crafty virus that’s changed a lot since the very beginning.”

He added that the good news is that the mRNA technology is easy to adjust and tailor to the changing strains.
