A southern Arizona man has been arrested for allegedly making death threats against former President Donald Trump on social media.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office made the announcement Thursday, the same day Trump was visiting the border in that county.

The suspect was identified as 66-year-old Ronald Lee Syvrud from Benson. He was arrested that afternoon during a traffic stop.

This comes a little more than a month after Trump survived an assassination attempt while speaking at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

The Sheriff’s Office said Syvrud was booked on several outstanding warrants in Wisconsin for driving under the influence and failure to appear in court, as well as a felony hit-and-run charge in Graham County and failure to register as a sex offender in Coconino County.

Senior field correspondent Bridget Dowd has a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
