Are you ready for some football?
Arizona’s college teams see their first action this weekend. The Sun Devils kick off their first season in the Big 12 Conference with a game against Wyoming Saturday night.
Coming off an injury-plagued 3-9 debut, it is year two for ASU head coach Kenny Dillingham.
“It’s really hard to judge yourself. So I would hope, through experience, that I’m better this year. I would hope, through experience, that I’ve grown as well as the players have grown and our team has grown,” Dillingham said.
The biggest change is probably at quarterback for ASU, where redshirt freshman Sam Leavitt earned the starting job after last year’s starter, Jaden Rashada, left for Georgia.
Meanwhile, the Arizona Wildcats are coming off one of their most successful campaigns with a 10-win season and a bowl victory. But they have a new head coach after Jedd Fisch left for the University of Washington.
The new man on the sidelines is Brent Brennan, who comes from San Jose State. He makes his debut as UA hosts New Mexico in Tucson Saturday night.
“It’s surreal, but it’s also really, really special and I’m excited, just like our players are. All I want to do is win. And so whatever we need to call to find a way to play good football and give ourselves a chance to win is what I want to do,” Brennan said.
For the first time since 2015, Arizona is in the top 25 to start a season, coming in at No. 21.
Also in action this weekend, the NAU Lumberjacks host the Oaklanders of Lincoln University, an unaffiliated independent program from Oakland, California.
