Maricopa County election officials say general election ballots will be two pages long for the first time since 2006.
The county anticipated long ballots, but didn’t finish the “ballot building” process until recently. The pages are front and back and the average number of contests on each ballot will be 79, though the exact number varies within the county depending on where voters reside.
Jennifer Liewer is a spokesperson for the Maricopa County elections department.
“Most important thing for voters is to plan ahead, make sure they’re registered by October 7th, and potentially consider voting early if they haven’t in the past,” Liewer said.
Ahead of the election, voters will be able to view and print sample ballots online.
Liewer said there are a few reasons for the longer ballots. One is a high number of ballot measures. Another is the fact that the Green Party candidates are officially recognized this year.
Voters in the Lonesome Precinct in the West Valley will have the longest ballots with 87 contests total to weigh in on. The area is in both the Tolleson High School and Tolleson Elementary School districts.
