A small plane crashed into a house in Cottonwood on Sunday morning.

Fire crews from the Verde Valley Fire District and Cottonwood Fire Department helped remove the pilot, who was injured.

No one on the ground was hurt.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Kristin Greene wants to know why the pilot landed the way he did.

“I, for one, as a person looking at this would wonder whether the pilot actually managed to do that on purpose. I would love to know that when he gets a chance to speak, but we may never know that, but it looked pretty deliberate," she said.

There were no passengers, and the pilot is in a Phoenix hospital in stable condition. Greene says the Federal Aviation Administration will conduct an investigation into the cause.
