Winter is Arizona's prime gardening season

Planting garden vegetables is a challenge during the summer months in Arizona.

Michael Chamberland from the Maricopa County Cooperative Extension said his group offers a planting calendar that specifically shows which months are the best for garden vegetables to grow.

Typically in Arizona, the winter months are the best time to grow vegetables, which runs contrary to most of the rest of the country, according to Chamberland.

But surprisingly, the heat can be an advantage for some plants in Arizona, including herbs.

"Rosemary is a popular garden group plant that really grows quite well for us," said Chamberland.

Arizona is similar to the Mediterranean region, where they also have hot and dry summers.
