Although the calendar shows summer ended last week, temperatures are continuing to soar throughout Arizona. The National Weather Service has extended an excessive heat warning into October.
The heat warning covers large portions of central and southern Arizona, including Maricopa and Pinal counties, and will remain in effect in most areas through Tuesday night.
Temperatures are expected to reach up to 116 degrees, which could continue re-setting the Phoenix record for latest day of at least 110 degrees.
The Arizona Department of Health Services warns the temperatures could be life-threatening. The agency recommends limiting outdoor activity, staying cool and hydrated, and making sure not to leave children or pets in parked cars.
