Maricopa County’s Department of Public Health is hosting three Wellness Expo events in coming weeks.
The events will offer immunizations for flu and COVID-19, screenings for diabetes and certain cancers, and guidance on enrolling in Arizona’s Medicaid program, AHCCCS. Attendees can also get training for how to use the overdose reversal drug, Narcan, along with other types of first aid training. Sponsors will also give away first aid kits and safety items like kids’ bike helmets.
“Everything is free. Nobody pays a penny. They can get their mammograms and any other services for free,” said Jhoana Molina, immunization equity manager with Maricopa County.
Molina said the annual events targeting low-income and under-insured communities typically draw hundreds of people.
“We see tons of families especially, because there’s something for everybody in the family, including the flu and COVID [vaccines] for everyone six months plus,” Molina said.
Walk-ins are welcome for most services, but mammograms and prostate cancer screenings require advance appointments. Appointments can be made by calling the Maricopa County CARES Team at 602-506-6767. Different health services may be offered at the three different events. Event details are at maricopa.gov/wellnessexpo.
The events will be held:
- Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 3130 N. 51st Ave. in Phoenix
