Maricopa County extends fire bans in regional parks until the end of October

Land managers consider the weather, existing moisture, fire activity and what's available to fight wildfires before deciding whether to implement fire restrictions.

Fire restrictions at Maricopa County regional parks have been extended until the end of October. The bans come as the weather continues to remain hot into the fall season.

According to Maricopa County Supervisor Jack Sellers, high temperatures and a dry monsoon season have fostered the conditions to cause wildfires to spread quickly.

Earlier in the summer, railroad work caused a wildfire to spread to the Hassayampa River Preserve, forcing a park closure and evacuation.

The restrictions apply to campfires, fire pits, charcoal grills and smoking outside of trailers or campers.

Eleven parks are affected, from Lake Pleasant Regional Park to the Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area.
