Oct. 12, 2024: Firefighters now know cause of Flood Fire burning in Pinal County

About 160 firefighters continue to battle the Flood Fire in Pinal County. The blaze has burned 4,400 acres so far and is 30% contained.

Tiffany Davila is with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. She said crews now have a good idea of what started the fire.

“Initial reports were that it was caused by some downed power lines that were possibly caused by a microburst in the area," Davila said.

She said crews are focused on the north and west sides of the fire which have been most active. It’s burning near a state highway about three miles from Oracle Junction.

Oct. 11, 2024: Pinal County Sheriff's Office lowers evacuation status

Evacuation orders from the Flood Fire have been lifted in several Pinal County communities.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office downgraded those orders from “Go” to “Set” status Thursday night.

The fire broke out Wednesday and latest estimates show it is at about 4,400 acres and is 30% contained.

Tiffany Davila with Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management says the ongoing heat wave and dry spell have contributed to the fire’s rapid growth.

"The fire grew significantly due to outflow winds over the fire area. So sporadic winds grew the fire in all directions," she said.

Davila says there are about 160 personnel working on the fire.
