Every day in October so far has set a new daily heat record, but relief could be on the way.

National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Rasmussen said the intense high-pressure system that’s been driving this unprecedented fall heat wave in Phoenix is finally starting to break down.

“We’ll see temperatures drop down to the 90s starting the early part of next week, so that will be a refreshing change,” Rasmussen said.

Rasumussen said temperatures are still likely to be above normal for at least the next few days, but he said high temperatures will drop a little each day throughout the week.

Phoenix’s record-shattering October heat comes after the hottest September ever in the city and a record-hot summer.
