The wife of a disabled Black man called 911 in August as her husband was violently arrested by Phoenix police and audio of the call has been released.

The incident recently came to light and has drawn national scrutiny just as the Phoenix tries to avoid federal oversight after a blistering civil rights report by the U.S. Justice Department

Jessica Ulaszek told the dispatcher she had recorded what happened to Tyron McAlpin on her cellphone.

“Cops jumped out of the car. Started punching him to the ground. And my husband got tasered,” Ulaszek said.

McAlpin spent weeks in jail accused of charges that have since been dropped.

The officers who arrested McAlpin have been put on paid leave while an internal investigation continues.
