Open enrollment for Medicare is about halfway through before its deadline next month.
For those qualified to join or to continue coverage, it can be a research-heavy task. Experts say mistakes are easy to make.
Dr. Leo Odle from Optum Arizona says one is automatic renewal.
“Automatic renewal is exactly what it sounds. Your insurance company sends you a notice, ‘hey, we’re putting you in the same plan next year.’ The problem with that is that your health care might have changed year to year. That same plan that you’re in this year might not be appropriate for you next year," Odle said.
Odle also says insurance companies also change what they cover from year to year, so research is key, and using an advisor is encouraged.
The enrollment deadline is Dec. 7.
