Scottsdale firefighters rescued this 6-foot boa constrictor from the engine compartment of a pickup truck on Nov. 13, 2024.

Scottsdale firefighters rescued a snake on Wednesday — not on a plane, but in the engine compartment of a pickup truck.

Fire Captain Dave Folio said the 6-foot boa constrictor was clearly someone’s pet:

”You can tell the snake’s well-cared-for, you can tell it was well-fed, so somebody in east Mesa’s missing a snake, and I’m sure they’ll be reaching out to the Herpetological Society to get their snake back.”

He said the snake wasn’t hurt, but the crew had to help it unwind from the various parts of the truck’s engine to get it out.

Folio said the snake was probably just trying to keep warm, since it’s getting colder outside during the nights.

“[The Herpetological Society] actually came out, we put the snake in a box, and we turned it over to them,” he said.

He said anyone who’s missing a snake should reach out to the Herpetological Society for information on how to recover it.
